Guest Moody1 Posted August 13, 2006 Report Posted August 13, 2006 Hi Guys I bought this Galaxy from and auction 2 Thursdays ago. Its got 86000 miles on the clock and outside looks OK, however, it wasn't looked after to well inside. That said, I'm still happy with it. The 1 concern I have is that it when it changes from 3rd to 4th (auto), it over revs untill I lift every so slightly on the go faster peddle, then it drops into 4th. Somethimes it does it in 4th. Also there is a whistle noise that happens under accelerating, but again, when I lift off, it goes away, When I got it, there was a broken (I think) breather pipe, next to the air filter, so got 1 the new pipe and 2, had too get the unit the pipe goes into. (Turns out there made by Volvo) The breather pipe has a plug in it that was plugged into a "blank" socket, but the new pipe has a live socket, but I have no idea what this socket is for. When I asked the main dealer mech what it was for, he looked long and hard at it, went pale and said..............Not a clue. I have read through this brillient site and ;) Kind of get the message to "trust" VW more than Ford, or Fix Or Repair Daily :) I know, an old 1. So this leads me to 3 questions............ 1. What is this dam pipe, and should it be live? 2. Is there a major problem with the gearbox likely to happen in the near future? 3. The car cost Quote
mumof4 Posted August 14, 2006 Report Posted August 14, 2006 Hmmm...for the year and i would say low milage..you got it for a good price...as for the rest...nary an idea   Quote
Guest tomskj40 Posted August 14, 2006 Report Posted August 14, 2006 Hi I had a similar over-revving problem with a 96 V6 Auto. I replaced the mass air flow sensor (MAF). I bought a replacement MAF from a Bosch automotive dealer (part exchange remanufactured sensor cost me 58 quid plus VAT). The auto transition was much improved. Furthermore, I think you got a good deal on the motor. The unit that you bought for the breather pipe do you know what it's called (is it a regulator valve?) where did you get it from and how much did you pay for it as mine needs replacing? I have the same colour as your Galaxy do you happen to know what the colour is called because I need a touch up paint stick I think the code on the VIN plate is F5? Quote
familyman Posted August 14, 2006 Report Posted August 14, 2006 :( you can confirm exact colour by giving reg no to local ford dealer -his magic computer SHOULD tell you   Quote
Guest Moody1 Posted August 14, 2006 Report Posted August 14, 2006 tom, I'll get the bonnet up tommorrow and take a picture of the part, and with luck, someone might know. Quote
pentaxman Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 I picked up much the same vehicle as yourself but with 56,000 on the clock (mileage confirmed by service history/MOT's) this weekend. It has a few small issues due to it having been slightly unloved which are slowly being sorted. I have noticed on the right of my lower filter box there is a hose type connection but with no hole through it. Could this be where your blank came from? Quote
gregers Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 i think after 3 years the problem has even been sorted or he isnt bothered about it,plz check the age of the posts before posting :( ,many thanks Quote
